Treatments

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
This form of psychotherapy involves working with clients to change their thought patterns in order to change their moods and behaviors. I work with clients to assist them in identifying how their emotions and behaviors are the result of distorted beliefs or thoughts, and then help them to learn how to restructure those beliefs or thoughts.
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
DBT therapy is a structured, evidence-based treatment that teaches skills to manage intense emotions, improve relationships, and cope with distress. It works by balancing acceptance of current thoughts and feelings with the need for change to build a more fulfilling life. This is done through four core skills: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness.

Psychotherapy
Also called “Talk therapy” and is used to assist the clients in identifying and changing trouble emotions, thoughts, and behaviors. Psychotherapists use a variety of therapeutic techniques to help clients. A psychotherapist is a licensed and trained professional.
Mindfulness
The practice of actively bringing your attention (awareness) to the present without judgment (acceptance). According to Greater Good Magazine, mindfulness means maintaining a moment-by-moment awareness of our thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations, and surrounding environment, through a gentle, nurturing lens.
Motivational Interviewing (MI)
William R. Miller and Stephen Rollnick developed this counseling approach, which they describe as a “collaborative, goal-oriented style of communication with particular attention to the language of change. It is designed to strengthen personal motivation for and commitment to a specific goal by eliciting and exploring the person’s own reasons for change within an atmosphere of acceptance and compassion.” One of the goals of MI is to help clients explore and resolve ambivalence. MI involves a collaboration between the client and the therapist.
Solution Focused Therapy (SFT)
This form of psychotherapy focuses on being future-directed and goal oriented. The focus is on a client’s strengths, coping abilities, and resources utilized to assist them in reaching future goals.
Strengths Based Therapy or Positive Psychology
Strengths Based Therapy involves the therapist working with the clients to help them identifying their strengths and using those strengths to create positive changes in their lives.
